Marginalized people exist in many areas of the social fabric, between different groups, but often feel unable to fully belong or integrate into a particular group. Because of the diversity of their identities and life circumstances, they are often confused about the relationship between the individual and the group, wanting to find their place in the group but fearing to lose their true selves. This state of liminality leads to a gradual confusion about their identity and sense of belonging.
